On Friday, Rasmussen Reports released the results of a recent poll on the issue of illegal immigration which may explain at least in part, why President Obama has been plagued by very low poll numbers.
The poll found that 65 percent of ""Likely U.S. Voters"" oppose granting automatic citizenship to the children of illegal aliens. Current law affords citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil, no matter their parents’ immigration status.
While the survey deals with a specific portion of the illegal immigration issue which certainly preceded Obama’s presidency, when combined with other recent results, it represents Americans’ growing frustration on the issue.
Last month, a Rasmussen telephone survey found that 63 percent of ""Likely U.S. Voters"" approve of police officers performing citizenship inquiries during routine traffic stops, a key component to immigration enforcement measures passed in states such as Arizona, Alabama and South Carolina (all of which the Obama administration is now suing over the implementation of those laws).
In August, another Rasmussen poll found that 75 percent of ""Likely U.S. voters"" favor strict government sanctions against those who hire illegal aliens, while just 16 percent oppose such sanctions. http://www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/poll-three-fourths-of-voters-want-employers-punished-for-hiring-illegal-aliens
